Microelectronics: EU Commission approves up to €8.1bn of public support

EU Parliament debate and vote on landmark rules to manage Artificial Intelligence

MEPs will debate on Tuesday and vote on Wednesday on the world’s first set of comprehensive rules to manage AI risk and promote uses of AI that align with EU values including human oversight, privacy, and non-discrimination. The rules follow a risk-based approach and establish obligations for providers and users depending on the level of risk the AI can generate. They would prohibit AI systems with unacceptable levels of risk.

Intelligent Transport Systems: EU lawmakers reach deal on digital traffic data rules 

EU Parliament and EU Council agreed on rules for intelligent transport systems that require more traffic data, such as on speed limits, to be available digitally. The provisional agreement reached on Thursday on intelligent transport systems (ITS) rules will help digitalise the transport sector and ensure that data between mobility apps will be shared more widely in order to make mobility safer, more efficient and sustainable.

Finnish President approves NATO status of forces agreement

The President of the Republic decided on Finland’s accession to the NATO Status of Forces Agreement and the Paris Protocol on 22 March. The Agreement between the Parties to the North Atlantic Treaty regarding the Status of their Forces concerns the legal status of the forces of a NATO member state when they are in the territory of another NATO member state in connection with their official duties. The Protocol on the Status of International Military Headquarters set up pursuant to the North Atlantic Treaty, or the Paris Protocol, extends the provisions of the NATO Status of Forces Agreement to Allied headquarters in the territory of a NATO member state and to their military and civilian personnel.

EU and Ukraine continue strengthening Solidarity Lanes and transport cooperation

Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has significantly impacted global trade routes, which has led to an unprecedented cooperation to improve Ukraine’s connections to the world. The Solidarity Lanes, established in 2022, have allowed Ukraine to export 126 million tonnes of goods valued at around €47 billion and import around 47 million tonnes of goods valued at around €96 billion. Additionally, the meeting addressed the need to prioritise transport safety and security through the alignment of regulations, sharing best practices and expertise, and discussed cooperation on reducing transport emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. Both parties also expressed their intention to continue working towards full membership for Ukraine in the Transport Community Treaty.

Georgia: EEAS Spokesperson on the developments around judicial reform
