This Q&A page is designed to help readers who are unsure about whether they should keep track of their country’s policies and regulations, those of the European Union, or those of other global institutions. To assist them, we offer tips on how to effectively utilize Insight EU Monitoring tools.

Is it necessary to monitor changes in EU regulations?

Most likely. These regulations, which govern a significant portion of daily life in Europe, are responsible for approximately 80% of the laws and regulations. They apply not only in the Union but also in neighboring countries. Even if you reside in a trading partner country of the Union, such as the United Kingdom, the USA, Canada, China, Russia, or elsewhere worldwide, it is critical to understand which regulations apply when you, your services, or your products enter or interact with the Union.

I receive ample essential information from the EU Commission, therefore, what is the rationale behind assessing supplementary sources?

While the EU Commission has made great strides in sharing information about its policymaking, it is important to note that they are only one of seven constitutional bodies within the Union.

  • In addition to the influential EU Commission, there is also the European Parliament, which serves as a direct representation of citizens and a platform for debate.
  • The European Council of Heads of State or Government acts as the strategic body of the Union.
  • Different constellations of the EU Council of Ministers define policies taking into account the interests of EU member states in concrete policy areas.
  • The European Court of Justice serves as the highest court in Europe.
  • The European Central Bank oversees the fate of the euro and the European banking system.
  • The European Court of Auditors is responsible for supervising the Union’s budgets and expenditures.

Moreover, there exist over 40 executive agencies specialized in various fields of the Union, as well as hundreds of EU projects, and in excess of 12,000 EU stakeholder representatives who are registered in the EU transparency register (and many more who are unregistered activists and lobbyists).

All of these entities actively participate in the formulation and execution of EU policies and regulations, top-down and from the ground up. Consequently, we suggest seeking assistance to remain up-to-date with these intricate and multifaceted decision-making processes. Currently, we have integrated more than 1500 sources of EU and global data, information, and documents, regularly monitoring their daily updates.

How would you help us?

It may seem complex, but we can assist you. Our expertise lies in simplifying the process monitoring. First, we assess your information requirements by determining:

  • the policy areas you need to address (such as finance, energy, environment, or trade),
  • the issues and keywords you want us to track,
  • and the institutions or sources you want us to monitor.

We also establish the frequency of our monitoring services (whether it’s near-time, daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) and the number of recipients (email addresses) who will receive our monitoring emails.

Since 2014, we have gained experience in recommending supplementary data and information sources. We will then compile all of this information into a spreadsheet for you, and present you with a customized and transparent offer for an annual subscription.

Which products are available?

Our range of offerings caters to the diverse needs and wants of our clients. Depending on their profile, we provide different formats through the IEU Portal and related e-mail services. This includes first-hand EU, global, or national documents that can be accessed on the go.

Readers can subscribe to our Insight EU Digest (a daily compilation of news headlines and links) and our Insight EU Agenda (a weekly collection of important EU events and meetings) for a rapid overview of EU policy debates.

For those who require more, upgrading to our monthly or annual subscription is easy. Our Insight EU Monitoring emails delve deeper into specific policy areas, summarizing daily developments and delivering them directly to your mailbox.

Insight EU Dossiers are produced on-demand and include an initial version and between 4-11 updates annually. They cover English, French, and German sources and provide an efficient tool for EU stakeholders, companies, associations, and NGOs to monitor single EU policies in-depth. Dossiers cover all relevant sources, including global organizations, European decision-makers, national actors, and influencers.

We gather and aggregate regulatory documents and positions in an unbiased way, helping clients understand the political landscape, alliances, supporters, and obstructers. Dossiers may also include journalistic investigations.

If my information requirements change during my annual subscription, what should I do?

We understand the ever-changing nature of our political landscape, which is why we provide quarterly updating sessions to our customers. Additionally, we have introduced a simple on-demand notification system via email, managed by our partner’s contact person.
