Statement der EU-Abgeorndeten Daniel Caspary (CDU) und Angelika Niebler (CSU)

Zu den ersten Hochrechnungen und Ergebnissen der Europawahl erklären Daniel Caspary (CDU), Vorsitzender der CDU/CSU-Gruppe und Angelika Niebler (CSU), Co-Vorsitzende der CDU/CSU-Gruppe und Vorsitzende der CSU-Europagruppe:

“Die Union ist nach den aktuellen Zahlen klarer Sieger der Europawahl in Deutschland und mit Abstand die stärkste deutsche Kraft im Europäischen Parlament. Unser Dank gilt allen Wählerinnen und Wählern und auch unseren Wahlkämpferinnen und Wahlkämpfern von CDU und CSU.

Mit diesem Ergebnis ist klar: Wir erwarten, dass Ursula von der Leyen Kommissionspräsidentin bleibt und fordern alle demokratischen Parteien auf, uns und unsere Spitzenkandidatin bei ihrer Wiederwahl zu unterstützen.

Die ersten Zahlen machen aber auch deutlich: Der grün-rote Kurs in Europa ist klar abgewählt und das gilt auch für die Ampel in Deutschland!

Leider hat vor allem auch der Unmut über die schlechte Politik der Bundesregierung zum weiteren Erstarken der AfD geführt – trotz der vielen Skandale um ihr Spitzenpersonal. Mit guter Politik wollen wir weiteres Vertrauen der Wählerinnen und Wähler zurückgewinnen.

Wir reichen allen demokratischen Parteien die Hand, die in den kommenden Jahren gemeinsam mit Ursula von der Leyen und uns Europa gestalten wollen.

Wir stehen für ein starkes, sicheres Europa, für Demokratie und Rechtsstaatlichkeit und für nachhaltiges Wachstum, Wohlstand und sozialen Zusammenhalt.”

S&D: As the leading progressive group, S&Ds will work for a pro-European and democratic majority

The European Socialists and Democrats returned successfully as the second largest and main progressive group with at least 135 members for the 2024-2029 mandate of the European Parliament.

360 million voters in 27 countries were called to the ballots from 6-9 June 2024. The Party of European Socialists and its sister parties ran a tireless European campaign with its lead candidate Nicolas Schmit, who took part in 70 events in 18 member states during his three-month campaign.

Speaking after the polls closed in all 27 countries, leaders from the European Socialists family reaffirmed their commitment to build a pro-European and pro-democracy majority in the newly elected European Parliament. They urged the conservative EPP to end its flirtation with the far right and return to its roots as a centrist, constructive pro-European force.

S&D Group leader, Iratxe García Pérez, said:

“First of all, I would like to thank all citizens who today expressed their trust in our social democratic family and in our project: a Union that cares about the welfare of its citizens, a Europe that is social, democratic and sustainable. Our citizens have cast their votes for a pro-European and democratic majority. As the second force in Parliament, we, the social democratic family, will be pivotal in forming this majority.

“We are ready to work for the pro-European and democratic majority our citizens have called for. We will not enter into any negotiations that includes the far right. We won’t open the door to those who allow and encourage xenophobia, homophobia, and the violation of the rule of law, or those who oppose the independence of the press and women’s rights. It´s time to act responsibly. We urge the conservative EPP to return to the pro-democracy and pro-European majority.

“The Social Democratic family will respect the principle on which the Spitzenkandidaten process is based and the role that the Parliament must play now.”

PES Common Candidate, Nicolas Schmit, said:

“To every person I spoke with on the campaign trail, to every candidate and activist who joined me, to every citizen who took the time to cast their vote, I want to say thank you. The promise of our Union lies in the strength, diversity and potential of our citizens. That is what this campaign reaffirmed to me. As socialists and democrats, we will continue to work for citizens and European unity. We stand together, for our Europe: social, democratic and sustainable.”

Europa-SPD: “Rechtsruck erfordert starken Demokratie-Schutz”

Die Wahlberechtigten in Deutschland haben nach einer ersten Wahlprognose zur Europawahl die CDU/CSU zur größten Gruppe der deutschen Abgeordneten bestimmt, die SPD zur drittstärksten nach der AfD.

Europaweit haben die Bürgerinnen und Bürger, laut einer ersten Zusammenstellung aus bis dahin verfügbaren nationalen Schätzungen, die sozialdemokratische S&D zur zweitstärksten Fraktion im Europäischen Parlament gewählt.

René Repasi, Vorsitzender der SPD-Europaabgeordneten:

„Demokratische Glückwunsche an die CDU/CSU, die heute die meisten Stimmen aus Deutschland auf sich vereinigen konnte. Danke für das Vertrauen an alle Wählerinnen und Wähler der Sozialdemokratie in Deutschland und in den anderen EU-Staaten.

Viele Menschen schauen aufgrund der vielen Krisen verunsichert in die Zukunft. Der SPD ist es in diesem Wahlkampf nicht gelungen, den Menschen diese Verunsicherung zu nehmen. Wichtig waren vielen Wählerinnen und Wählern in Deutschland bei dieser Wahl vor allem Friedenssicherung sowie soziale und wirtschaftliche Sicherheit.

Die Menschen sehnen sich nach Halt, viele können ihn in der SPD offenbar aktuell nicht erkennen. Ich bin überzeugt, dass unsere Inhalte zu starken europäischen Sozialstandards wie dem Mindestlohn, nachhaltige Energiesicherheit und ökologisch-soziale Wettbewerbsfähigkeit die richtigen für eine gute und sichere Zukunft in Europa sind. Wir müssen als Konsequenz aus diesem Wahlergebnis alles daran setzen, das Vertrauen der Menschen zu gewinnen, dass wir diese Inhalte auch durchsetzen können.

Im Angesicht des Wahlergebnisses beginnt ab morgen die Auswahl einer neuen Kommissionsspitze. Es wäre brandgefährlich für die Demokratie und die Rechtsstaatlichkeit in Europa, wenn eine neue Kommissionsspitze Nationalisten und Demokratie-Feinden zum Machterhalt politische Zusagen macht. Nationalist:innen an der Regierung sehen wir derzeit zum Beispiel in Italien, Schweden, Finnland oder in den Niederlanden. In Italien sind die Nationalisten um Meloni dabei, Presse- und Versammlungsfreiheit einzuschränken sowie die Rechte von Frauen und Minderheiten zu untergraben. Mit einer Verfassungsänderung soll das italienische Parlament Befugnisse verlieren und der Staatspräsident de facto entmachtet werden.

Der Rechtsruck in Europa erfordert, dass alle demokratischen Parteien den Rechtsstaat, die Gewaltenteilung und die Menschenrechte schützen. Die neue Kommissionsspitze muss ein Bekenntnis gegen Nationalismus, dessen Bändigung die Gründungsidee der EU war, abgeben. Die CDU/CSU und ihre EVP-Faktion sollten sich auf ihre pro-europäschen Wurzeln besinnen und Nationalisten ebenfalls eine klare Absage erteilen.

Es gibt zudem überhaupt keine Notwendigkeit zu einer derartigen europafeindlichen Kooperation. Die pro-europäischen Parteien können den Rechtsaußen-Block im EU-Parlament gemeinsam weiterhin deutlich überstimmen. Eine Kommissionsspitze, die sich der sozialen Sicherheit, der Friedenssicherung und der Fortführung des Wandels hin zu einer klimaneutralen Wirtschaft verschreibt, kann sozialdemokratische Unterstützung bekommen.“

Renew Europe ready to build a pro-European coalition to modernise the European Union, if our ambitions are matched

Following the announcement of European election results across Europe, the liberal and centrist Renew Europe Group has pledged to be in the driving seat of a new pro – European coalition in the European Parliament, with the goal of modernising and reforming the Union, if our ambitions are matched by other pro-Europeans.

Enhancing European security, ensuring prosperity for all in society including cutting red tape for businesses, defending democratic institutions, the Rule of Law and reform of European institutions are central to who we are.

Valérie Hayer, President of Renew Europe, said:

“These results show that no pro-European majority in the European Parliament is possible without us. We are ready to be in the driving seat of a pro-European coalition if our conditions and ambitions are matched. A coalition of chaos involving the political extremes, who are hopelessly divided, is a recipe for stagnation and paralysis. A stronger Europe in a changing world can only be built from the political centre.”

“We are optimistic for the future and see green shoots for liberals, democrats and centrists in many countries. The rise of the far – right in some countries is an alarm that must be taken seriously if we want to preserve Europe. Voters of many persuasions feel frustration with the Union of today, which is why we need to listen and reform Europe so it is prepared for a world that is changing before our eyes. Prosperity, security and stronger democracy are our watchwords.”

Greens/EFA: European elections show democratic majority must stand united against far-right more than ever European Elections 2024

Following the latest exit polls and results of the 2024 European Election, the Greens/EFA Group is ready to continue being a constructive force for the future of the Union for this upcoming mandate.

Terry Reintke, Greens/EFA President and lead candidate of the European Green Party, comments:

“This weekend, millions of people across the EU voted for parties that stand for democracy, freedom, climate action and for a strong European Union. We are proud to stand with them. We know that the gains made by the far right in some countries, particularly France, Germany and Austria, will be extremely concerning for all of us who fight for democracy and freedom.

“We are proud that our political family has gained MEPs across Europe, with new partner parties in countries in Central and Eastern Europe where we never had MEPs before, such as Croatia, Latvia, Slovenia and Lithuania and gains made by strong Green voices from Southern Europe, as in Spain. We came in first in Denmark and the Netherlands and we will remain a strong green voice in Sweden and Finland. This is an important milestone for our political family and our representation in the European Parliament.

“It is now more important than ever to secure a stable pro-European democratic majority in the European Parliament. This democratic majority must come together in the face of the far-right. The Greens/EFA Group is a reliable, responsible partner and we are prepared to work constructively with other democratic parties to stop far-right forces from gaining power.”

“Across the European Union Greens and our partners campaigned to show that we have solutions to make a fair and green future possible. The losses in Germany and France are obviously a blow, at the same time, in many countries the voters recognised the solutions of the Greens and elected MEPs from green parties in countries which had never sent greens to the European Parliament.

“The rise of the far-right in today’s elections is extremely concerning for all those who believe in a democratic European Union and in just and equal societies. Given the multiple crises we face, we must not deny the problems ahead, but to work to find a way forward. The Greens/EFA Group will work to deliver for people, for businesses, and for farmers in the transition to sustainability.

“The Green Deal is still Europe’s best tool to protect people, tackle the climate crisis and future-proof our continent. We call on other political groups, particularly EPP and Renew, to boost efforts to drive the Green Deal forward as the economic engine for Europe’s economy. We are ready to play our part and work with those who stand on the side of democracy and freedom for all and we will fight all who attack the values of the European Union.”

Ergebnis für Grüne enttäuschend – Angebot Teil demokratischer Mehrheit zu werden bleibt bestehen

Das Ergebnis der Europawahlen kommentiert die bündnisgrüne sächsische Europaabgeordnete Anna Cavazzini, stellvertretende Leiterin der deutschen Grünen Delegation im Europaparlament:

“In einem von Drohungen und Einschüchterungen besonders gegen die Grünen geprägten Wahlkampf möchte ich mich zunächst bei allen bedanken, die im Wahlkampf besonders im Osten unermüdlich im Einsatz waren, nicht nur für die Grünen, sondern für unsere Demokratie. Das sich heute abzeichnende Ergebnis kann dabei nicht zufriedenstellen. Nicht nur bleiben wir mit wohl zwölf Abgeordneten hinter unseren Erwartungen zurück, vor allem ist das Ergebnis der AfD bestürzend, mit dem Putin-Freunde und China-Vasallen als zweitstärkste Delegation ins Europaparlament einziehen.

Umso entscheidender wird es sein, nun eine stabile Mehrheit der demokratischen Mitte in Europa zu sichern. Konservative, Sozialisten und Liberale haben aller Voraussicht nach weniger Sitze ergattert, als für eine stabile Mehrheit benötigt werden. Unser Angebot bleibt bestehen: Die Grünen stehen für den Kampf gegen die Klimakrise und für die Verteidigung unserer Demokratie. Daher sind wir bereit, Teil einer Mehrheit zur Unterstützung der oder des nächsten Kommissionspräsidentin, bzw. -präsidenten, zu sein – unter der Voraussetzung eines klaren Bekenntnisses für den Green Deal und jede Zusammenarbeit mit der extremen Rechten auszuschließen. Die nächste Kommissionspräsidentschaft hat also die Wahl, sich entweder von der extremen Rechten für die Verabschiedung jedweder Gesetzgebung abhängig zu machen oder mit einer demokratischen Mehrheit zusammenzuarbeiten, die Europa voranbringen will. Wir Grüne stehen bereit, uns dieser Verantwortung zu stellen.”
