Russia: EU Council sharpens sanctions tools against destabilising activities

The EU Council today established a new framework for restrictive measures in response to Russia’s destabilising actions in Europe and abroad. This new framework will allow the EU to target individuals and entities engaged in actions and policies by the government of the Russian Federation, undermining fundamental EU values, European security, independence, and integrity.

These cover reforms in the areas of public administration, the judiciary, public procurement, early childhood education and care, as well as investments in the decarbonisation of the energy sector, electronic communications, research and innovation, and health.

Poland: EU Commission disburses the first RRF payment of €6.3bn

Poland submitted to the Commission the first payment request of €6.3 billion under the RRF covering 37 milestones and one target. These cover five investments and 25 reforms in key areas such as improving the country’s investment climate, the resilience and competitiveness of the economy, agriculture, green energy, digital transformation, health and clean mobility.

DR Congo: EU to provide €99 million in humanitarian assistance

During his recent visit, which included meetings with the authorities as well as visiting the troubled eastern part of the country, EZ Commissioner Lenarčič announced the EU plans to provide close to €99 million in total in humanitarian assistance this year. China: 39th Human Rights Dialogue with the European Union
