This new framework will allow the EU to target individuals and entities engaged in actions and policies by the government of the Russian Federation, undermining fundamental EU values, European security, independence, and integrity.

NATO Secretary General praises France’s leading role

The Secretary General praised France’s key role in the Alliance, including its contributions to collective defence on the eastern flank with deployments in Romania and Estonia. He also thanked President Macron for France’s contributions to NATO’s air policing in the Baltic skies and in the maritime domain, where “French naval ships keep our sea lanes open and safe”. Main results of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, 24 June 2024

The EU Foreign Affairs Council exchanged views on the Russian aggression against Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East. EU ministers then held a discussion on Western Balkans before having an informal discussion over lunch with their Western Balkans counterparts. The Council also exchanged views on Georgia and the Great lakes Region in Africa.
