EU Code Week 2023 promotes digital skills among young people

The EU Code Week kicks off on Saturday 7 October this year. Then on Monday 9 October from 16:00-18:00 there will be a livestreamed event with speakers from the education and advanced digital skills domain who will share their insights into the importance of coding, and connect live with schools showcasing remarkable coding education actions. The aim of the Code Week initiative is to encourage young people take up coding and pursue a career in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

EU Commission VP Jourová in Japan to attend the 18th Internet Governance Forum 

Together with government, media, and civil society representatives, the Vice-President will discuss current issues and challenges in the area of open Internet, human rights, the fight against disinformation, but also data governance, virtual worlds, cybersecurity, digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence, with a particular focus on generative AI.

EU Commissioner Sinkevičius in Slovenia and Croatia to discuss wastewater, air quality and packaging 

Commissioner Sinkevičius will visit Ljubljana today where he will meet Nataša Pirc Musar, President of Slovenia; Bojan Kumer, Minister for Environment, Climate and Energy; and members of the National Assembly. The meetings will address in particular the ongoing discussions on environmental legislation including urban wastewater treatment, air quality, packaging and packaging waste, soil and forests. The Commissioner will also discuss with his counterparts how Slovenia is coping in the aftermath of the floods that hit the country last August. 

EU Commissioner Simson co-chairs EU-China Energy Dialogue in Beijing

From 11 to 13 October, Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson will be in China, in particular to participate in the 11th EU-China Energy Dialogue in Beijing with the Director National Energy Administration Zhang Jianhua. They will exchange views on the global energy situation and energy security and both sides' efforts to advance the clean energy transition. 

EU Commission President in Tirana to participate in the Berlin Process Summit

On Sunday 15 and Monday 16 October, President Ursula von der Leyen will be in Tirana, Albania, where she will participate in the Berlin Process Summit, held in the Western Balkans region for the first time. On Sunday afternoon, President von der Leyen will meet the President of Albania, Bajram Begaj, and the Prime Minister, Edi Rama, to discuss Albania's EU accession process. President von der Leyen and Prime Minister Rama will hold a press conference following their meeting, at +/- 17:30 CEST, which will be broadcast live on EbS.
