As announced in the Federal Register, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) will hold a public symposium on artificial intelligence (AI) and intellectual property on March 27 at 10 a.m. PT virtually and in person at Loyola Marymount University Law School in Los Angeles. The symposium supports the USPTO directives under the president’s Executive Order 14110, “Safe, Secure, and Trustworthy Development and Use of Artificial Intelligence.”

An agenda with speakers and panels has been published on the event page. Panelists include experts in the fields of patent, trademark, and copyright law who will discuss:

  • Generative AI as author or inventor? A comparison of copyright and patent analyses
  • Litigation update: copyright and AI
  • AI, NIL (name, image, likeness), and the Lanham Act

Seating for in-person attendance has reached the maximum limit. New in-person registrants will be put on a waitlist. You can still register to attend the event virtually.
