In 2021, 966 businesses employing some 10 300 persons had commodities trading as their main activity. These stakeholders, notably specialised in trading fuels, metals and metal ores, were mainly based in the cantons of Geneva and Zug. Backed by related activities such as financing, certification and transport, this sector benefits from the dynamism that characterises large structures, particularly Swiss multinationals. These are the latest results from the commodity trading statistics compiled by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
