In light of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s televised speech on the morning of 21 September, Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson later the same day issued the following statement:
“The EU and Sweden strongly condemn Russia’s continued aggression against Ukraine and the plans for further so-called referendums on Russian-controlled territory in Ukraine. Any such referendums would have no legitimacy whatsoever and would constitute further flagrant violations of international law.
“Together with the EU and other partners, we will discuss appropriate measures, including further sanctions, in response to Russia’s unacceptable actions.
“Russia’s attempts to influence our policy will not succeed. Our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is unwavering.”
