Brussels, 14 November 2022

On 16 and 17 November 2022, the first European Employment & Social Rights Forum will take place in Brussels and online, under the theme: ‘The social dimension of the green transition’.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has increased the need to accelerate the green transition and diversify our energy supplies, also in view of rising energy prices.  To meet the EU’s climate ambitions, policies must ensure the transition is socially-just and everyone is brought along. European decision-makers and leading experts will be invited to take stock of measures already taken and explore thought-provoking solutions for the future.

The #EUSocialForum is the biggest European event dedicated to employment and social rights in Europe. It will be opened by a virtual welcome message from Commission President von der Leyen, and will feature, amongst others, interventions by former Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, by Commissioners Schmit and Dalli, Czech Deputy Prime Minister Jurečka, as well as representatives from the business sector, for instance in the area of renewable energy, and academia. The event marks the 5th anniversary of the European Pillar of Social Rights, which sets out 20 guiding principles for a strong social Europe. In addition, the event will reveal the 1,000th member joining the Pact for Skills, which mobilises companies, training providers, chambers of commerce and others to take concrete commitments to upskill and reskill people.

The Forum’s full programme is available online and it is still possible to register to attend. A press room will also be at journalists’ disposal in the venue for the duration of the event and there will be the opportunity to request press interviews with speakers.
