Tbilisi, 11 April 2023

EUMM hosted today the OSCE Chairman-in-Office and Foreign Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, on a visit to the South Ossetian Administrative Boundary Line (ABL) near Odzisi. Foreign Minister Osmani was accompanied by Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus, Ambassador Viorel Moşanu.

During the visit, EUMM monitors informed the delegation about the most recent security and humanitarian developments along the ABL. In this regard, they highlighted how ‘borderisation’ activities and the closure of the Odzisi crossing point for regular cross-ABL traffic negatively impacts the local population’s freedom of movement. They explained that the Mission has advocated for the lifting of freedom of movement restrictions during the upcoming Easter holiday season, and will continue to advocate for the permanent reopening of the crossing points along the South Ossetian ABL.
Foreign Minister Osmani used the opportunity of his visit to thank the Mission for its continued contribution to stability throughout Georgia and the wider region, as the only international monitoring presence on the ground.
