“From the point of view of Horizon Europe Research, Europe would not have been a global leader in Hydrogen without the (Clean Hydrogen) Partnership. The Partnership has been a game changer and has managed to create a community and bring together the researchers. Moreover, without the Partnership, Europe wouldn’t have been where it currently is in terms of a global approach. (..) the value added of the Partnerships (FCH2 JU and Clean Hydrogen JU) comes through avoiding duplication and the enhanced transfer of knowledge. This is particularly important for sectors (…) which require EU-wide solutions.”
The report highlights that over 180 research and innovation projects have been funded, with efforts focused on hydrogen production, storage, and transportation applications. Notably, the Hydrogen Valleys initiative, designed to create regional ecosystems for hydrogen, has emerged as a critical tool in Europe’s clean energy strategy.

The report also stresses the importance of enhancing synergies between EU programs and national initiatives to maximize the impact of hydrogen projects. Moving forward, the Clean Hydrogen Partnership will continue driving innovation to meet the EU’s 2030 and 2050 climate goals, with a strong focus on scaling up renewable hydrogen technologies.
