The German Bundestag has elected Olaf Scholz as the new Federal Chancellor. Scholz achieved the so-called “Chancellor Majority” with 395 votes, which is 369 votes. He is now appointed by the Federal President in accordance with Article 63 of the Basic Law and then takes his oath of office before the Bundestag. The ministers are also appointed later in the day. Previously, 707 of the total of 736 members of the Bundestag had cast their votes in a secret ballot.
