Brussels, 3 February 2025
The Commission has established a new Task Force dedicated to strategic communication and countering information manipulation, which has kicked off its work on 1 February 2025.
The Task Force is attached to the Directorate-General for Communication. It will build on the work done over the past years on countering information manipulation online and strengthening societal resilience and preparedness, in line with President von der Leyen’s Political Guidelines for this mandate.
The Task Force will focus on building up situational awareness on information manipulation through monitoring, detection and analysis of open-source information, strengthening response and awareness-raising and supporting the Commission’s work on digital and media literacy and resilience-building. It will also ensure overall policy coordination and coherence of efforts to counter information manipulation.
The Task Force will cooperate closely with the relevant services of the other EU institutions, bodies and agencies, of the Member States, international organisations and partners, in coordination with the European External Action Service (EEAS). It will interact with other relevant stakeholders at EU, national and local level.
