Commissioner Reynders will present to the Civil Liberties Committee the latest developments in relation to the data transfers from EU to UK as contained in the draft adequacy decisions regarding the General Data Protection Regulation and the Law Enforcement Directive. MEPs will be interested in the Commission’s overall assessment of the level of protection of personal data in the UK as well as subsequent monitoring and reviews. Questions regarding the legal framework in the fields of national security, onward transfers of data from the UK to a third country and on processing of personal data for immigration and law enforcement purposes in UK are also likely to be raised.
The MEPs will react to Commission’s assessment and intentions regarding 10 legal instruments, incl. on joint investigation teams, regarding transfer and processing of passenger name record (PNR), exchange of information on traffic offences, that were identified as requiring an update in order to bring them in line with the current data protection rules for law enforcement purposes.
On Tuesday, the Committee will also vote on the draft resolution on the Commission evaluation report on the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation two years after its application. The resolution will be debated and voted during the 24-25 March Plenary session.
