Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, embarks today on a mission to Barbados over October 11-12 to meet with regional leaders at the EU-CARIFORUM Ministerial and to launch the EU’s Global Gateway strategy in the Caribbean through three key partnerships. Ahead of the EU-LAC summit foreseen in summer 2023, this visit is a step towards further strengthening engagement between the EU and the Caribbean region. Commissioner Urpilainen will launch three Caribbean-EU Partnerships under Global Gateway in the areas of green and fight against climate change, economic resilience and trade, as well as governance, security and human development, in the presence of Prime Minister Mia Mottley, with whom she will have a bilateral meeting. During the EU-CARIFORUM Ministerial, Commissioner Urpilainen will exchange with Ministers of the CARIFORUM Member States as well as with its Chair, the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda, Chet Greene. The visit will also see the launch of the Youth Action Plan in Latin America and the Caribbean, during a visit to the EU-supported Barbados campus of University of the West Indies. She will also visit an EU-supported primary school in Bridgetown.
