Helsinki, 25 August 2022
Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Tytti Tuppurainen and Hungary’s Minister for Regional Development and EU Funds Tibor Navracsics will meet in Helsinki on Friday 26 August. The Ministers will discuss EU funds, questions concerning the rule of law, the security situation in Europe, energy, and bilateral relations between the two countries.
The topics on the agenda include the current state of implementation of the EU’s Multiannual Financial Framework (2021–2027). Climate action, the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic pose economic challenges to the Member States, and the EU must be able to respond to them. Other topics include the rule of law and conditionality of EU funding.
The Ministers will also discuss the consequences of the Russian war of aggression and the bilateral relations between Finland and Hungary. Historically, Finland has enjoyed good and close relations with Hungary. Hungary supports Finland’s NATO membership, but the ratification process in the Hungarian Parliament is still under way.
