Luxembourg, 10 May 2024

For a limited time period, Eurostat now offers a data and fact-checking service for the European elections. Media and fact-checkers can ask questions about data and statistics on the European Union

using a dedicated functional mailbox (ESTAT-EUELECTIONS-2024@ec.europa.eu).

This service will be active until 15 June 2024. It will help prioritising requests related to the elections, considering a possible increase in the volume of inquiries from journalists as the date of the elections approaches. Media support is provided on the working days of the European Commission in Luxembourg between 8:00 and 17:00 CET, and also public holidays in this period.

With this service, Eurostat aims to provide responses in 1 hour to journalists and fact-checkers when the requested data are available in Eurostat’s database. A longer response time should be envisaged for complex queries, especially when contributions from national statistical institutes are necessary.

Eurostat looks forward to providing this special service to support the media in providing factually correct information and resources to the citizens about the European elections, and to contribute to fighting misinformation in the EU.
