On Thursday at 15.30 CEST, MEPs and Swiss parliamentarians will gather for the 42nd EU-Switzerland Interparliamentary Meeting in Brussels.
The meeting, which will be presided over by MEP Andreas Schwab (EPP, Germany), Chair of the European Parliament’s delegation for relations with Switzerland, and his Swiss counterpart Benedikt Würth, will consider the latest efforts to break the deadlock on resuming negotiations between the EU and Switzerland to clarify a range of pending institutional issues. Previous discussions on a new Institutional Framework Agreement broke down in 2021 after a prospective deal was terminated by the Swiss government. Since March 2022, so-called exploratory talks have been held by both sides to possibly relaunch the negotiations but without a result.
WHEN: Thursday 27 April, 15.30-18.30 CEST.
WHERE: Room 1G2 in the European Parliament’s Spinelli building in Brussels.
You can watch the meeting live here.
EU-Switzerland dealings are currently governed through more than 100 separate agreements. Read more about the relationship here.
At the meeting, participants will also explore other aspects of the EU-Swiss relationship, including foreign policy cooperation and the role of the European Court of Justice in relations between the two sides. Petros Mavromichalis, Head of the EU Delegation to Switzerland, as well as Rita Adam, Head of the Swiss Mission to the EU, will also participate. The full agenda is available here.
