Brussels, 22 December 2022
EU energy ministers formally adopted a Council regulation laying down a temporary framework to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy projects.
The regulation introduces faster permitting processes for projects that have the highest potential for a quick roll-out of renewable energy and the least impact on the environment.
Most of the content of the regulation was already agreed in the Energy Council on 24 November 2022. Ministers reached a definitive political agreement on the regulation on 19 December 2022, adding a provision to fast track and simplify the roll out of grids.
The regulation was adopted today by written procedure. It will now be published in the EU’s Official Journal and enter into force. It will apply for 18 months.
