On Monday and Tuesday (3-4 April) Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, Nicolas Schmit, and Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, will be in Bucharest, Iaşi and Vaslui, in Romania, to participate in the launch event of Cohesion Policy’s national programmes for 2021-2027, meet with national and regional authorities and visit several EU funded projects.

On Monday morning, the Commissioners will meet in Bucharest with the Prime Minister, Nicolae Ciucă, the Minister of European Investments and Projects, Marcel-Ioan Boloș, and the Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity, Marius-Constantin Budăi.

The Commissioners will then travel to Iaşi where, at 16:00 EEST, they will participate together with Minister Boloş and Minister Budăi in the launch event of the eight Cohesion national programmes, which will be followed by a press conference. At 18:00 EEST, the Commissioners will meet with local stakeholders at a Citizens’ Dialogue event titled ‘The Future of Cohesion Policy in the North-East Region’.

On Tuesday, Commissioners Schmit and Ferreira will travel to Vaslui to visit several Cohesion-funded projects, namely the ‘Emergency County Hospital’, the expansion of the local pre-school education infrastructure and a meat processing factory that employs vulnerable people and is one of the largest employers in the region.

Back in Iasi, the Commissioners will visit the Nicolina Ukrainian Refugees Centre and other Cohesion funded projects including: the ‘Close to You Foundation’, which works to support the inclusion of people with disabilities through a social entreprise model ; the ‘Simulation Center Prof. Univ. Dr. Cristian Dragomir’ of the ‘Grigore T. Popa’ University of Medicine and Pharmacy, a cutting edge facility co-financed by the EU to improve the practical aspects of medical training;  and the SMURD cross-border project, a joint training centre with the Republic of Moldova for interventions in emergency situations.
