On 11-12 July, Climate Action Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra will represent the Commission at the informal meeting of environment ministers in Budapest.

On Thursday morning, Commissioner Hoekstra and ministers will discuss preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) to be held in Azerbaijan in November. Then, during the working lunch, they will discuss the competitiveness of the circular economy, building on the progress made under the EU Circular Economy Plan. In the afternoon, ministers will debate resilient water management. The commissioner will also have a meeting with the Hungarian State Secretary for Energy and Climate, Attila Steiner.

On Friday, the first session will be dedicated to cross-border water and air pollution. The meeting will end with a working lunch dedicated to the green financing actions of the European Investment Bank in the areas of environment, climate action and the circular economy.

A press conference will take place at the end of the informal meeting, provisionally scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m., with the participation of Commissioner Hoekstra alongside the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the EU. It can be followed online on EbS.
