The European Commission has decided today to appoint Agnieszka Kazmierczak as Director-General for its Internal Audit Service (IAS). This Commission department provides independent advice, opinions and recommendations on the quality and functioning of internal control systems inside the Commission, EU agencies and other autonomous bodies. The date of effect of this appointment is to be determined later.

Agnieszka Kazmierczak, a Polish national, will draw on her extensive experience in policy-making and resource management gained over 17 years in the European Commission. She is also equipped with an excellent strategic analytical capacity, and robust communication and leadership skills. Throughout her career, she has built up a particularly solid expertise in audit and governance, together with an in-depth knowledge of the EU budget and Financial Regulation. She holds a professional certification as Certified Internal Auditor.

Since 2019, Agnieszka Kazmierczak has been Director-General of the Euratom Supply Agency within the Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER). She is in charge of the management and administration of the Agency, including all legal obligations related to its legal personality and is accountable to the Discharge Authority.

Prior to that, she was Resources Director for the shared Resources Directorate of DG ENER and the Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE), where she managed the financial, human and IT resources. From 2007 to 2014, she served as a Director ‘Horizontal Affairs and Audit in Agencies’ in the Internal Audit Service. She was also Principal Adviser in the same department in the preceding years. Before joining the Commission in 2005, she worked as EU and Public Sector Services Director in the private sector. She also held the post of Director of the Internal Audit Coordination Department in the Ministry of Finance of Poland.
