Brussels, 21 March 2025

On Monday 24 March, the European Commission and the European Parliament will organise a joint conference in Brussels  bringing together stakeholders and representatives from different levels of government to start a policy dialogue on affordable housing.

The Commissioner for Energy and Housing, Dan Jørgensen, and the Chair of the European Parliament’s Special Committee on the Housing Crisis in the European Union, Irene Tinagli, will open the conference. The high-level opening session will be followed by debates with representatives of the European institutions and stakeholders.

Unaffordable housing has a negative impact on millions of families and young people across Europe. In response to this situation, the Commission is developing a European Affordable Housing Plan. To ensure that all relevant parties are involved in addressing this urgent issue, the Commission is intensifying its dialogue with other EU institutions, Member States, regions, cities, financial institutions, the construction sector, civil society organisations, youth representatives and other key stakeholders.

Energy and Housing Commissioner Dan Jørgensen said: “Today, the European Commission and the European Parliament are responding to the concerns of many citizens about the housing crisis that is preventing people and families from realising their dreams and improving their futures. By engaging in all areas and gathering the views of all relevant people and organisations, we will find the best solutions to provide European citizens with more affordable and sustainable housing. »
