On Monday, Parliament’s Subcommittee on Security and Defence will host Florence Parly for a debate on French Presidency priorities for EU security and defence.

MEPs will focus on key areas from the French Presidency’s work programme, including the strategic compass and the promotion of joint operations. They will look into the ability of the EU to defend itself in new areas of conflict – on the high seas, in cyberspace and in outer space.

They also want to debate the development of EU defence capabilities and the promotion of innovation, in particular through the creation of an Innovation Defence Hub within the European Defence Agency, as well as deepening partnerships like the transatlantic link.

Background

In a series of meetings, French ministers outline the priorities of the French Presidency of the Council of the EU to parliamentary committees and subcommittees. France holds the Presidency of the Council until the end of June 2022.
