On Thursday morning, the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) will host a discussion on the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation.

When: Thursday 17 March 2021, 9:00–12:00

Where: Antall building, room 2Q2, and by remote connection

In the hearing, MEPs and guest speakers will discuss the current state of GDPR implementation and enforcement in three thematic panels. In each panel, presentations are followed by a Q&A session with MEPs.

Panels and speakers:

Panel 1 – Exercising data subjects’ rights: filing complaints, applicable national procedures, access to data rights

  • Ursula Pachl, Deputy Director General of the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC)
  • Mikko Niva, Global Privacy Officer, Vodafone
  • Sophie Genvresse, Deputy to the Head of the Service for the Exercise of Rights and Complaints, Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL)

Panel 2 – Focus on the enforcement scheme

  • Mar España Martí, Director, Spanish Data Protection Authority (AEPD)
  • Tobias Judin, Head of the International Section, Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet)
  • Gwendal le Grand, Head of activity for enforcement support and coordination, European Data Protection Board (EDPB)
  • Gloria González Fuster, Research Professor at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB)

Panel 3 – Big cases and cross-border challenges

After the final panel, DG JUST Director-General Ana Gallego Torres and LIBE Chair Juan Fernando López Aguilar will offer closing remarks.
