Brussels, 27 January 2025

On 24 January 2025, the European Board for Digital Services (“the Board”) convened for its 11th meeting. During this meeting, the Commission updated the Board on its recent enforcement activities.

The Board discussed latest developments on elections in Member States. It has been informed about the ongoing work in Working Group 4 (Integrity of the information space) for an elections toolkit which will support the Digital Services Coordinators in their activities.

The Board then discussed in-depth the role of platforms in elections and Meta’s recent announcements on its operations, more particularly regarding fact-checking on the platform.

Further, the Commission provided an update on conversion of the Code of Conduct on Hate Speech, and the Code of Practice on Disinformation.

In addition, the Board endorsed the common baseline for the annual activity reports of the Digital Services Coordinators, as stated in Article 55 and the communication material which were prepared by Working Group 2 (Working together).

The Board also held a discussion for the preparation of the first anniversary Board meeting.

Finally, the Board continued to discuss the work on an age verification application, and discussed the ongoing activities in its Working Groups.

The next Board meeting will take place in Brussels on 19 February 2025, one year after the first Board meeting.

Background

The DSA fully entered into application as of 17 of February 2024, and now applies to all online intermediaries which offer services to recipients that have their place of establishment or are located in the EU. Member States had to appoint and empower, by that date, their Digital Services Coordinators, which are independent regulators that work with each other and the Commission to ensure the correct application of the DSA in their Member States.

The European Board for Digital Services is an independent advisory group that will ensure that the DSA is applied consistently across the EU and will be consulted on the enforcement of the DSA.
