Brussels, 28 March 2023

Today, the Commission welcomes the pledges by seven organisations to support the European Institute of Innovation and Technology’s (EIT) Deep Tech Talent Initiative. Together with the EIT and its network of 3,400 partners, they will develop training programmes and courses to allow European learners identify technological solutions for the highly innovative deep tech sector, combining science and engineering in the physical, biological and digital domains. This first wave of pledgers is expected to train 500,000 Europeans, a first step towards achieving the objective of training 1 million talents in deep tech domains by 2025. It will benefit all education levels as of secondary school, professionals and entrepreneurs. A particular focus is given to underrepresented groups in the world of tech and business, such as women and girls.

Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, said:

“We congratulate the first seven Deep Tech Talent Pledgers to have joined the initiative, and celebrate their commitment to train 500,000 European talents. This initiative will shape our leadership in the deep tech sector in the decades to come. And we call for more stakeholders to get on board.”

The first pledgers are JA Europe, Intel, the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Abodoo, Computer Vision Center Barcelona, Generation and Tampere University of Applied Sciences. They reflect the diversity of organisations joining the Deep Tech Talent Initiative: training providers, financial backers, enterprises, non-profit organisation, and the public sector. The online Deep Tech Talent Platform will host, among others, a repository of the courses developed under the Deep Tech Talent Initiative, and the first courses are already available. Trainings on deep tech will further enrich the catalogue of all EIT educational courses, which are easily accessible via the EIT Campus, presented in January 2023. For more information, consult the EIT’s press release and the factsheet.
