The Hague, 5 March 2025
A delegation of Conservative MEPs, including ECR Group Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs Coordinator Assita Kanko (BE), Nora Junco García (ES), Geadis Geadi (CY), Mariusz Kamiński (PL), Georgiana Teodorescu (RO) and Maciej Wąsik (PL), visited Eurojust to discuss the EU agency’s crucial role in the fight against organised crime, terrorism, drug trafficking and migrant smuggling.
The visit to The Hague was an opportunity to gain an insight into Eurojust’s mandate and how it bridges the gaps between national legal systems to ensure a more effective response to cross-border crime.
Assita Kanko said:
“Our visit today was an opportunity to deepen our understanding of Eurojust’s work and to explore ways in which we, as legislators, can further support its mission. In today’s world, where crime knows no borders, judicial cooperation is more important than ever.
“Eurojust, together with Europol, has proven to be an indispensable partner in the fight against cross-border crime, terrorism, drug trafficking and the smuggling of migrants. Its coordination between national prosecutors ensures that criminals cannot escape justice simply by crossing a border.
“Police without justice does not work. Together we want to make Europe safer for all citizens. We want every EU citizen to live free from the threat of organised crime. Criminals must not win. Effective police and judicial cooperation is the way to defeat them.”
The ECR Group strongly supports closer cooperation between national investigating and prosecuting authorities, ensuring that justice and security remain top priorities while respecting the sovereignty of Member States.
