Brussels, 19 June 2024

The Group of European Conservatives and Reformists in the European Parliament has grown to 83 members in a second round of accessions. The group, which sees itself as a constructive centre-right force in the European Parliament but is opposed to an ever-closer Union, ousts the Renew Group from third place in the Parliament.

At today’s Group meeting in Brussels, the following new MEPs were formally admitted:

  • Kristoffer Storm from the Denmark Democrats party (Danmarksdemokraterne);
  • Ivaylo Valchev from the Bulgarian party ‘There is Such a People’ (Има такъв народ, ITN);
  • Aurelijus Veryga from the Lithuanian Farmers and Greens Union party (Lietuvos valstiečių ir žaliųjų sąjunga);
  • French MEPs Marion MaréchalGuillaume Peltier, and Laurence Trochu, who left Reconquête to form a new conservative party together with
  • Nicolas Bay, who had already been a member of the group; and
  • Claudiu-Richard TarziuGheorghe PipereaMaria-Georgiana TeodorescuAdrian-George Axinia, and Serban Dimitrie Sturdza, from the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (Alianţa pentru Unirea Românilor, AUR).

The constitutive meeting of the group with the election of the chairperson is scheduled for 26 June.

1) With today’s decision, these MEPs have joined the ECR Group. This does not mean that their parties are automatically members of the ECR Party.

2) On 12 June, the ECR sent out a press release stating that it had grown to 77 members. Among other things, this did not take into account the political changes in France. Due to the fact that some members had to be readmitted, the number of 83 MEPs now confirmed appears to be lower than a reader might expect from the last press release.

3) The ECR Group is a centre-right political group in the European Parliament, founded in 2009 with a common cause to reform the EU based on eurorealism, respecting the sovereignty of nations, and focusing on economic recovery, growth, and competitiveness.
