Parliament’s rapporteur on the Digital Services Act, Christel Schaldemose, will brief journalists on the outcome of the vote in the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee.
The committee will vote on its position on the Digital Services Act (DSA) proposal on Monday evening and Tuesday morning, 13 and 14 December. In a press conference on Tuesday, at 9.30, the lead MEP steering the file through Parliament, Christel Schaldemose (S&D, DK), will inform the media about the main points of the compromise amendments.
The amended text on the DSA is due to be submitted to the full House in January’s plenary session and then become Parliament’s mandate for the negotiations with the Council, which are planned to start under the French presidency in the first semester of 2022.
This draft law aims to create a safer digital space in which users’ rights are protected, including through rules to tackle illegal products, services or content online, enhance the accountability and transparency of algorithms, and deal with content moderation. Provisions on risk assessments, risk mitigation measures, independent audits and so-called “recommender systems” (algorithms that determine what users see) included in the DSA would also help to tackle harmful content (which might not be illegal) and the spread of disinformation.

EU Digital COVID Certificate to enter Parliament
As of 3 November, all people entering Parliament’s buildings are requested to present a valid EU Digital COVID Certificate, including journalists. The EU Digital COVID Certificate proves that a person is either fully vaccinated, has immunity after having recovered from COVID-19 or can show a recent negative PCR test result. Both digital and paper formats of the EU Digital COVID Certificate or of a recognised equivalent certificate will be accepted.
A proof of a negative result of a PCR test carried out within the last 72 hours in Belgium, Luxembourg or France will also be accepted. Please note that the existing precautionary measures, including the compulsory wearing of a medical face mask and temperature checks at entrances, remain in place.
