Brussels, 20 April 2022
The Commission is today launching a public consultation on the review of existing EU legislation on combating child sexual abuse, which establishes minimum rules on the definition of criminal offenses and sanctions in this area .
As announced in the EU Strategy for a more effective fight against child sexual abuse, the Commission will assess the 2011 EU Directive on combating sexual abuse and exploitation of children to identify best practices and remaining legislative gaps.
All interested parties, including civil society, public authorities, social partners and citizens, are invited to participate. The results of this public consultation will help assess the implementation of the Directive and guide the development of further priority actions at the EU level.
The public consultation is available here and is open for contributions until July 13, 2022.
