Today and tomorrow, Commissioner for Climate Action Wopke Hoekstra will be in Rome, Italy, to meet with government representatives and stakeholders to discuss the path towards decarbonisation. He will also join climate leaders and advocates at the Climate Reality Leadership Training, organised by former US Vice-President Al Gore’s ‘Climate Reality Project’.

On Thursday, Commissioner Hoekstra will meet with Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, Minister of Environment and Energy Security. The Commissioner will also visit the ‘Porto Fluviale’ RecHouse with Mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri. This project, partially funded by EU Recovery Funds, will improve the energy efficiency of the historic site.

On Thursday afternoon, he will attend an event with Italian senators, parliamentarians and high-ranking officials.

On Friday morning, he will have a working breakfast with industry to have an exchange on our climate policy achievements, the challenges and opportunities for Europe’s competitiveness.

On Friday afternoon, the Commissioner will hold a bilateral meeting with former US Vice-President Al Gore for a discussion on international climate action issues. He will then participate in a panel discussion on ‘Climate Action Across Europe’ alongside Al Gore. He will end the visit with a bilateral meeting with Jack Markell, US Ambassador in Italy.
