The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the acquisition of joint control of MC Retail Energy Co., Ltd. (‘MCRE’) by Mitsubishi Corporation (‘MC’) and Chubu Electric Power Miraiz Co., Inc. (‘MZ’), all of Japan.
MCRE is active in the retail supply of electric power in Japan. MC is a global integrated trading company, which develops and operates business across a variety of industries, including power solutions. MZ, part of the Chubu Electric group, is a retail supplier of electric power in Japan.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns, because of MCRE’s negligible foreseen activities within the European Economic Area. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
