Norway limits collective protection to fewer Ukrainians

For two and a half years, the vast majority of people arriving from Ukraine have received temporary collective protection in Norway without individual consideration of each application by the authorities. Now, applications from people from areas in Ukraine that the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) assesses as safe will be handled according to the ordinary regulations for asylum. This currently applies to six areas.

Polish OSW on the consequence of the Ukrainian attack in the Kursk Oblast

Around 3,000 to 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers from a group estimated at a total of 6,000 to 10,000 military personnel, the core of which consists of contingents drawn from four brigades, entered Russian territory. IAEA Director General’s update on the situation in Ukraine

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) experts at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) witnessed thick dark smoke coming from the north-western area of the plant, after hearing multiple explosions. The team was informed that an alleged drone attack on one of the plant’s cooling towers took place. There was no impact on nuclear safety.

Update on Ukraine’s defense efforts and measures

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy met with the bipartisan delegation of the U.S. House of Representatives: Donald Norcross, Celeste Maloy, and Jimmy Panetta. The Head of State thanked the US delegation for visiting Kyiv and Odesa. IAEA Director General update on the situation in Ukraine on 2 August 2024

The water level in the cooling pond at Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) continues to decrease. Despite all reactors remaining in a state of cold-shutdown, availability of this water is important for nuclear safety of the plant, Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said today.

EIB commits more than €450 million to support Ukrainian energy infrastructure crucial for upcoming winter. The bank also announces a new initiative to increase local-currency lending and EIB guarantees to facilitate access to financing for Ukrainian businesses. And the EIF is to roll out this month €300 million in export-credit guarantees for EU companies trading with Ukraine.

Register of Damage for Ukraine: EU becomes a fully-fledged participant

The Register serves as record of evidence and information on claims for damages, losses, or injuries caused by Russia’s war against Ukraine. It aims to ensure full and effective reparation for Ukraine and its people. The Register was established by the Council of Europe on 12 May 2023, with 43 States and the EU joining so far, including 26 EU Member States.
