Brussels, 4 February 2025
A delegation of Security and Defence Committee MEPs will travel to Israel and the Palestinian Territories from 5-8 February to assess the work of the EU’s two CSDP civilian missions.
In their meetings with both Israeli and Palestinian political representatives and officials, MEPs are set to reaffirm their support for the work of the European Union’s Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) missions EUOPOL COPPS and EUBAM Rafah, particularly following the recent redeployment of the latter to the Rafah Crossing Point after an 18-year absence. The delegation will seek to assess the latest developments on the ground and how the EU missions can contribute to stability in the fragile security context. Additionally, in their meetings in the West Bank, MEPs will also examine the potential future reform and reconstruction of the security sector in the Palestinian Territories, and how the EU’s civilian missions can support this.
The delegation will be chaired by Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann (Renew Europe, Germany). It will also comprise the following MEPs: Nicolás Pascual de la Parte (EPP, Spain), Michał Szczerba (EPP, Poland), Sven Mikser (S&D, Estonia), Ana Catarina Mendes (S&D, Portugal) and Tineke Strik (The Greens/EFA, Netherlands).
