Today and until the end of the week, EU Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, is traveling to Greece and Cyprus to discuss defence, cybersecurity and industrial competitiveness with members of the government, industries and institutions.

This afternoon, Commissioner Breton and Greek Minister of National Defense Níkos Déndias will discuss strengthening the European defense technological and industrial base, the European Defense Industrial Strategy (EDIS) and the European Defense Industry Program (EDIP) associated with it.

Tomorrow he will meet the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic Kyriákos Mitsotákis for an exchange on the EU’s political priorities. He will also visit the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and take part in part of a two-day pan-European exercise aimed at strengthening preparedness in the event of large-scale cyberattacks. The Commissioner will conclude his visit to Athens with a visit to two industrial sites, including a cable manufacturer, before visiting one of the major companies in the shipbuilding sector.

On Friday, in Cyprus, Commissioner Breton will meet the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Níkos Christodoulides, the Minister of Defense Vasilis Palmas, as well as the Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry, George Papanastasiou.
