October’s Agriculture and Fisheries Council meeting will take place on Monday 11 and Tuesday 12 October from 10.00 in Luxembourg. The meeting will be chaired by the Slovenian Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Jože Podgoršek.
Following the adoption of ‘A’ items, the first morning will be devoted to fisheries. Ministers will begin by discussing fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2022. The afternoon will focus on agricultural topics, beginning with a discussion on the state of play of the national CAP strategic plans. Following a short break, ministers will discuss the revision of marketing standards for agricultural products, in particular labelling rules for honey blends. The first day will conclude with a press conference featuring Mr Podgoršek and the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski.
On day two of the Council, the results of consultations on fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2022 will be announced via a press conference with Mr Podgoršek and the Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius. The meeting will commence at

A final press conference with Mr Podgoršek and Commissioner Wojciechowski will bring the meeting to a close in the afternoon.
Over the course of the two days, ministers will receive information from delegations on a number of AOB points, including Spain’s candidate to chair the UN Committee on World Food Security, the pig meat sector, the meeting of G20 agriculture ministers, the revision of the European quality policy, the framework for state aid, the recent UN Food Systems Summit, Turkish fishing vessels in EU waters, and animal welfare legislation.
