Eurostat data: How people interact with public authorities online

In 2023, 69% of EU citizens aged 16-74 have used a website or an app of a public authority in the preceding 12 months.  The share varied greatly among EU countries, with highest shares recorded in Denmark (98%), Finland, the Netherlands and Sweden (all 95%). In contrast, the lowest shares were recorded in Romania (23%), Bulgaria (30%) and Germany (58%).

General-Purpose AI: EU Commission received nearly 430 consultation responses

The EU Commission received nearly 430 contributions in response to its multi-stakeholder consultation on the future Code of Practice for General-Purpose Artificial Intelligence (GAI), as provided for in the European Regulation on Artificial Intelligence (AI Regulation). The contributions received will inform the Commission’s work to finalise the Code of Practice by April 2025.

EU Commission clears acquisition of TBX NewCo Spain and TBX Upstream Seamless Pipes by Tubacex and Mubadala

The EU Commission has approved the acquisition of joint control of TBX NewCo Spain S.L.U. of Spain and TBX Upstream Seamless Pipes L.L.C. of the UAE by Tubacex S.A. of Spain and Mubadala Investment Company P.J.S.C. (‘Mubadala’) of the UAE. The transaction relates primarily to the manufacture of oil country tubes for the exploration and extraction of oil and gas.

Today, the EU Commission has received the third payment request from Czechia for €1.9 billion (net of pre-financing), of which €1.7 billion in grants and €190 million in loans, under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). Czechia’s payment request concerns 41 milestones and 24 targets, including reforms in the energy sector.

On the 13th of September, the EU Commission has received the second payment request from Germany for €13.5 billion in grants (net of pre-financing) under the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF). The payment request concerns 16 milestones and 26 targets. It covers reforms in the areas of onshore and offshore wind energy, education and training.

Three Belarusians charged for forcing Polish plane to land to arrest dissident

A three-year investigation has led to the charging of three Belarusian nationals for deceitfully seizing a Polish aircraft in Belarus to arrest a dissident. The forced landing in Minsk of a commercial flight caused a direct threat to the life and health of the 132 passengers and unlawfully deprived the crew and passengers of their liberty.
