Informal ministerial meeting on competitiveness (Research), 27 – 28 July 2023

The working sessions of the informal ministerial meeting on research will focus on fostering innovation in the countries on the shores of the Mediterranean and will underline the importance of Europe's science and technology diplomacy. It will also seek to reinforce the Horizon Europe Strategic Plan and present the IFMIF-DONES project.

President von der Leyen travels to Manila to take EU-Philippines partnership forward

Next Monday 31 July, President Ursula von der Leyen will be in Manila, in the Philippines, where she will meet President Ferdinand Marcos with the aim of moving forward the partnership between the European Union and the Philippines. The two Presidents will discuss several matters of common interest such as trade, security, and the green and digital transitions.

World Water Week in Stockholm discusses links between technologies, water and power

The series of seminars under the heading ‘Innovation and geopolitics of water’ organised during the World Water Week in Stockholm on 20–24 August will explore the impact of digital technologies on shared water resources and political negotiations related to water in the global context. Technology and innovations open doors to new players in the field of water diplomacy and bring along both opportunities and new kinds of challenges.

Heads of missions meet in Helsinki

Heads of Finland’s missions abroad and foreign policy leaders will meet again at the Annual Meeting of Heads of Mission in Helsinki on 21–23 August. The meeting will discuss the impact which the new multipolar world order and the transformation of geoeconomics and technology will have on the position of Finland and Europe. The conditions under which the EU can pursue its global role are also on the agenda. In addition, Finland's recent membership in NATO will provide a new framework for the discussions.

Swiss diplomats from around the world meet to discuss foreign policy

This year's Ambassadors and International Network Conference is taking place from 21 to 24 August 2023 in Bern. The unique forum allows diplomats from Switzerland's entire external network to discuss and help shape foreign policy documents and projects. This year's edition will focus on the 2024–27 foreign policy strategy.

Finland’s PM to visit Sweden

On Friday 25 August 2023, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson will receive Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo. The meeting will focus on the security situation, including EU support to Ukraine, competitiveness and the green transition. There will be photo opportunities, and a joint press conference will be held in conjunction with the meeting.

France: 29th Ambassadors’ Conference, 28-30 August 2023

Mme Catherine Colonna, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will bring together French ambassadors for the 29th Ambassadors’ Conference from Monday 28 August to Wednesday 30 August 2023. An important meeting of the French foreign service, the Ambassadors’ Conference will provide an opportunity to put forward the priorities that will steer the work of our diplomatic network’s 162 ambassadors and 15 permanent representatives of France to international organizations.
