UNCTAD: Launch of the Maritime Transport Review

22 October

Geneva, 21 October 2024

Hybrid Press Conference: 22 October 2024 at 2:30 pm CEST, 12:30 pm GMT

UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD) launches its Review of Maritime Transport 2024: Navigating maritime chokepoints, which will address critical vulnerabilities in global maritime routes, including the Suez and Panama Canals.

These disruptions, driven by climate change and geopolitical tensions, are putting global trade and supply chains at significant risk, with particularly severe impacts on Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

The report will outline urgent measures needed to strengthen maritime resilience, promote low-carbon shipping, and combat fraudulent ship registrations.

Speakers:

Shamika Sirimanne – Director of UNCTAD Division on Technology and Logistics

Jan Hoffmann – Chief, UNCTAD Branch of Logistics
