Hearing on China’s interference and disinformation activities in Africa

Speakers:

  • Christof Hartmann, Professor for International Relations and African Politics, Duisburg-Essen University
  • George Sarpong, Lawyer, Journalist and Executive Secretary of Ghana’s National Media Commission

With the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on Development.

Discussion with the Commission about the follow-up on the recommendations on the report of the predecessor of the current Special Committee. Topics include digital literacy and education, support for quality journalism and the European Media Freedom Act; responsibility of social media platforms; foreign interference and influence in electoral processes, funding of political activities by third-country donors; protection of universities and innovation centres against foreign interference; sanctions and collective countermeasures and global cooperation.
