Spanish EU Presidency seminar: Triple Transition: shaping international cooperation to address digital, green, and social transitions

05 July 2023

5 July 2023

Casa América

Madrid, Spain

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation/OECD/IDB

It is one of the first events in the field of cooperation under the Spanish Presidency. It will bring together the views of renowned specialists as well as stakeholders from different sectors and geographical regions. The debate will focus on the need – given the current geopolitical challenges – to implement a triple transition (digital, green and social), as well as the financing of the transition. It precedes the EU-CELAC Summit in July and will enable participants to consider sustainable development issues of great relevance to the Latin American and Caribbean region. The results of this seminar are expected to feed into the planned Council Conclusions on the triple transition.

It will consist of four panels, which will cover: i) the current context of development cooperation and its main challenges, ii) the triple transition to seek the eradication of inequalities, ii) its financing (an issue generally linked to the debate on financing for development, but also, more specifically, to the debate on the reform of the Multilateral Development Banks) and, iv) the role of the European Union in the face of this challenge, highlighting the role of Spain in its rotating Presidency.
