The next extraordinary meeting of the Workers’ Group will be held in Madrid on the occasion of the Spanish EU Presidency. On the agenda is among others a review of the Spanish Presidency’s achievements so far with respect to the priorities it has established for its semester.
Nadia María CALVIÑO SANTAMARÍA, First Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for the Economy and Digital Transformation, and Antón COSTAS, President of the Spanish Economic and Social Council, are expected to set the tone of the debates in their keynote speeches and interventions. The meeting will be opened by Lucie STUDNIČNÁ, Workers’ Group President, followed by the welcome addresses to be pronounced by Marina PRIETO, Regional Secretary General of UGT Madrid, Paloma LÓPEZ, Regional Secretary General of CCOO Madrid, and Oliver RÖPKE, EESC President.
The first panel of the meeting will focus on the social agenda of the Spanish Presidency to be opened by Yolanda DÍAZ PÉREZ, 2nd Vice-President and Minister for Work and Social Economy, with contributions from Unai SORDO, Secretary General of CCOO, and Cristina ANTOÑANZAS PEÑALVA, Deputy Secretary General of UGT. The second panel will explore issues of social dialogue and collective bargaining from a practical perspective, as it will focus on experiences and good practises in social dialogue and collective bargaining in Spain, with interventions by Mari Cruz VICENTE, Confederal Secretary of Trade Union Action, CCOO, and Fernando LUJÁN, Deputy Secretary General for Trade Union Policy of the UGT.
On the next day, the third panel will focus on the EU elections 2024, particularly on how to mobilise EU citizens and workers to massively vote as the best way to have a say on their future and to defend democracy, economic and climate sustainability and social justice. The panel will be opened by María ANDRÉS MARÍN, Head of the European Parliament’s Office in Spain, with expected interventions from Lina GÁLVEZ MUÑOZ, MEP, S&D Group, Eugenia RODRÍGUEZ PALOP, MEP, The Left, and Pablo SIMÓN, political scientist, Carlos III University. The last panel will be devoted to a stocktaking of the overall debates in Madrid and in previous Workers’ Group meetings and a brainstorming on the Workers’ Group key priorities and strategies in the short and medium terms. The panel will be opened by Lucie STUDNIĆNÁ, Workers’ Group President, who will present the state of play, with contributions from Miguel OTERO, Senior Researcher at the Elcano Royal Institute, Professor at IE University, and Félix PEINADO CASTILLO, Director of the ILO office for Spain.
