Public hearing on the revision of late payments directive

25 October 2023

Brussels, 23 October 2023

On Wednesday, October 25 at 14.30 Parliament’s Internal Market committee will hold a hearing to prepare for the revision of late payments directive.

The proposed revision of the Late Payment Directive is part of the “SME Relief Package” announced by President von der Leyen in 2022. It aims to make commercial transactions fairer and protect especially SMEs from difficulties. Despite Late Payment Directive being in force since 2011, more than 60% of businesses in the EU are still not paid on time and SMEs are the most affected.

The hearing aims to give MEPs a good overview of the situation from different perspectives. In the first panel, experts will focus on the legal and economic policy issues whilst in the second, two business associations representing SMEs will comment on the proposal from their point of view. The full agenda and list of speakers is available here.

When: Wednesday, 25 October from 14.30 until 16.00

Where: European Parliament, Spinelli building, room 3G3, Brussels and online
