Event type: Webinar
Location: Online, 18:00-19:00 CET
On 30 January 2025 (18:00-19:00 CET), the EESC will hold an info session on the “EESC youth delegate to COP selection process”, to reflect on the experience of the current youth delegate in relation to COP28 and COP29, and to explain the application and selection process for the new youth delegate.
Following the opening of the call for applications on 10 January 2025, this info session will answer any questions potential applicants may have about the application and selection process. In order to give participants a clearer overview of the activities and responsibilities of the youth delegate, Diandra Ní Bhuachalla, the EESC’s current youth delegate, will share her experience of the preparatory work, the meetings of the Youth Task Force and the EESC’s Ad Hoc Group to COP, as well as the missions to COP 28 and COP 29.
Representatives from the European Youth Forum (YFJ) and Generation Climate Europe (GCE) will also participate in the info session to share their thoughts on the participation of young people in the UNFCCC and CBD processes and how this could be strengthened.
For some years now, the EESC has been working on how to better include the voice of young people in the EU decision-making process in a structured and meaningful way. In collaboration with the YFJ and GCE, the EESC launched the ‘Youth Delegates to the COP’ programme in 2021 as a follow-up to the own-initiative opinion Towards structured youth engagement on climate and sustainability in the EU decision-making process. The EESC included a youth delegate in its delegation to UNFCCC COP meetings for the first time at COP26.
With the mandate of the current EESC’s youth delegate, Diandra Ní Bhuachalla, coming to an end, it is now time for the EESC, in collaboration with the YFJ and GCE, to select the new youth delegate for the next two years. The mandate of the new youth delegate will start in March 2025 and end in February 2027.
