The EESC has repeatedly emphasized its support for more genuine sources of own revenue for the EU budget. This has become all the more important in the current higher interest rate environment that has left a gap in the EU budget for the repayment of the money the Union has borrowed on capital markets.
Against this background, on Thursday 5 October 2023, from 9:30 to 11:00, the ECO section organises a public debate which will focus on the Commission´s proposal for a next generation of own resources and the related policy proposals of the EESC.
Speakers confirmed:
- José Manuel Fernandes, rapporteur for the European Parliament on Own Resources (remotely)
- Claudius Schmidt-Faber, Deputy Head of Unit for Revenue Policy and New Own Resources, Directorate General for Budget, European Commission
The debate is accessible via webstream. No registration is needed.
