Informal meeting of EU transport ministers, 19-20 September 2024

One of the main priorities of the Hungarian Presidency is the improvement of the competitiveness of the EU, therefore the topics of the meeting are also reflecting to this priority – with particular regard to that the transport sector plays a crucial role in the EU’s economic integration and competitiveness. Beside the EU transport ministers, representatives from the Western Balkans, EFTA countries, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, as well as representatives of EU institutions and certain transport organizations are also participating in the informal meeting.

The topic of the first session of the informal meeting is the improvement of the EU transport sector’s competitiveness, with a discussion of the improvement of connectivity between the EU and neighbouring countries, challenges and opportunities arising from greening transport and from digitalization in transport, and future transport funding opportunities. During the second session, the participants will focus on the railway sector, discussing what measures and strategies are needed to establish a high-speed rail network, improve connections between rural and urban areas, and mobilize resources necessary to enhance the sector’s competitiveness.

The event will be closed with a press conference.
