The Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union is organising an informal meeting of the Ministers for Employment and Social Policy (EPSCO) on October 9-10, 2024 in Budapest.

Improving the competitiveness of the EU and addressing demographic challenges are among the main priorities of the Hungarian Presidency. In relation to these priorities, the participants of the informal meeting will mainly reflect on labour shortages, more effective involvement of labour market reserves, and issues of social inclusion. In addition to the EU employment and social affairs ministers, representatives of the EFTA countries, EU institutions, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), Eurofound and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), as well as representatives of the European social partners, will also participate in the informal meeting.

The informal meeting will consist of two main blocks. During this session, a representative of the ILO will give a presentation on the global challenges of the labour shortages, which will be followed by the ministers exchanging views related to these issues. In the afternoon (social) session, the ministers will discuss the key issues of social inclusion of persons with disabilities and persons with changed working capacities, with particular attention to the interpretation of, national legislation on and implementation of reasonable accommodation as well as the exploration of best practices.
