DELEGATIONS

SEDE delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina

From 20 to 23 February, a Security and Defence Subcommittee delegation will go to Bosnia and Herzegovina to assess the EU’s military operation Althea and the security situation in the country. MEPs will meet with members of the Tripartite Presidency and the new government, parliamentarians and representatives of the international and think tank community.

IMCO delegation to Helsinki and Tallinn

From 20 to 22 February 2023, an Internal Market and Consumer Protection delegation will visit Helsinki (Finland) and Tallinn (Estonia) to look into the circular economy and resource-efficiency programs of both countries as well as into Estonian e-government and digitalisation initiatives. The mission will support IMCO’s ongoing work on e-government, digital public services, consumer protection and green transition.

REGI mission to Lapland

A delegation of four MEPs of the REGI committee is set to visit Lapland, one of the EU´s northernmost regions in Finland. During a five-day trip from 20 to 24 February, three MEPs, led by their chair Younous Omarjee (The Left, FR), will have the opportunity to visit the city of Rovaniemi, discuss the use of EU regional development funds with local, regional and national authorities, learn about the role of Lapland in the regional development and assess cross-border cooperation among Nordic countries in the area. Alert

LIBE delegation to Belgium, France and Netherlands

From 20 to 22 February, a delegation of six Members from the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs, will visit Brussels (Belgium), Calais (France) and Ter Apel (Netherlands) to learn about migratory situation and reception conditions in these countries. Members will also visit UK-France coordination and Information Centre and investigate about the fight against smuggling in the area. During the visit Members will meet with government officials and agencies in charge of migration policy as well as NGOs and various stakeholders.

FEMM delegation to Spain

A delegation of the Women’s Rights and Gender Equality Committee will be in Madrid 20-22 February focusing on the cases on the sexual consent law, care and dependence law and the fight against trafficking and sexual exploitation. They will meet with representatives of the judiciary, NGOs, trade unions, ministers, members of parliament, academics and will visit a women’s shelter. There will be a press point at the end of trip at 14.00 on Wednesday 22 February.

COVI delegation to South Africa and Ethiopia

Between 20 and 22 February in Cape Town, a delegation of eight members from the special committee on the COVID-19 pandemic, led by Chair Kathleen VAN BREMPT (S&D, BE), will exchange views with representatives from the South African ministry of health, as well as with members of the national parliament dealing with health, trade and international relations. MEPs will also visit the Biovac pharmaceutical company, manufacturing and distributing COVID-19 vaccines in Africa, and the WHO mRNA vaccine technology transfer hub. On 23 and 24 February in Addis-Ababa, members will exchange with representatives from the African Union, the Africa Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, the WHO and the Red Cross.

PEGA delegation to Hungary

From 20 to 21 February, a delegation of ten MEPs will visit Budapest, Hungary, to learn more about allegations of spyware abuse targeting journalists, the opposition and civil society. During their two-day visit, the MEPs will speak with the leadership of the Hungarian National Assembly’s Committee on National Security, the President of the National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information Dr. Attila Péterfalvi, journalists and NGO representatives. The visit will finish with a press conference on Tuesday 21 February at 14.00.
